rotting corpse toward the end

I remember being a bit confused about the scene toward the end where Kristy is hiding from Frank and suddenly this rotting corpse pops out of the shadows and dumps a bunch of maggots out of its mouth all over her. I get that it's a jump scare, and an effective one at that, but...where did Mr. Peekaboo Corpse come from? Was it the body of one of Frank's victims from earlier in the movie? Just some random weirdness summoned by the puzzlebox? Is it explained somewhere in the movie and I just missed it? Or is it just a random jumpscare with no context?

Anybody know?

It has to be one of the victims of Frank hidden there. It kinda looks like the victim that almost escaped, when Kirsty arrives in the house.

That was my original thought too, although given its advanced state of decay, I was always quite confused how she didn't notice it until that moment. The odor would have had to have been almost visible at that point :P

Eventually that made me wonder if it was just supposed to be some random bit of supernatural spookiness instead, but that explanation never worked for me either. It was just a bit TOO random to make sense.

Ah well. Thanks for answering :)

The film specifically shows Julia take a corpse into that room, the first victim to be precise. It's the scene where Larry comes home and is looking for Julia. She barely gets into the bathroom before Larry sees her so that she can get cleaned up. Upper level rooms are hotter during the day since they are closest to the roof, which could account for the accelerated decay. Keep in mind that the bodies are in pretty bad shape already once Frank is done with them. It seemed pretty obvious to me. I agree with you, however, that the odor should have been noticeably strong, even outside of the room.

Whose idea was it for the word LISP to have an S in it?

That definitely makes sense then. I'll just assume nobody noticing the stench was just a goof then. Thanks for answering :)

Yes, it's one of those situations where if the stench was noticed, then Julia is caught and the film is over, LOL!

It was one of the bodies of one of the men that Frank had "devoured". When someone like Frank (or Julia from the 2nd film) absorbs the life of someone else, their bodies break down during the process. What's left is a husk that resembles a decayed corpse. As far as smell is concerned, the whole house seemed old and musty. I'm sure the very top floor smelled bad anyways because of humidity and what not. Then again, I'm no environmental expert.

I always thought it was the first victim of Frank and Julia as another poster mentioned. The corpse also has a huge gaping mouth which makes sense since Julia about ripped the man's jaw off when she smashed him with the hammer.

You're such a mess, the train wreck stops to watch you!
