Wonderful world Vs Barbers Adagio for strings

I found the use of louis armstrongs what a wonderful world with the backdrop of the horrors of vietnam an amazing use of music to put across the emotion of war. The only music i can think of that provokes the same emotion, possibly in any film, is barbers adagio for strings in Platoon.

Is there any other music in a film that provokes the same emotion (rather than just being memorable) with you in terms of war films, and films in general?

The cast of Magnolia singing Aimee Mann's "Save Me".

heya Jimmy...

adagio for strings in the movie platoon was set to make the movie seem real, yet sad....just the current theme running through the entire movie...

A wonderful world, was probably at the time, meant as sarcasm, due to events at that time in Vietnam.

Agreed?

Great post! I've always loved how the music can set the mood in movies.
A couple that stand out in my mind are Wagner's "Ride of the Valkryes" used in Apocalypse Now, and Orff's "Carmina Burana" used in Glory, Excaliber and many others. If you don't know them I'd recommend them both.

Speaking of Apocalypse Now, the use of The Doors' "The End" was fitting as well.

Yes, the Albinoni Adagio used at the end of Gallipoli. Check it out.

Not a war movie, but the robbery scene at the end of "Boogie Nights" was superb. As was the end montage, with "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys wafting over the soundtrack.
