Two palm trees and one tank LOL!

Here's your Vietnam, this is another overrated movie by Kubrick, 10 soldiers, few palm trees and one tank = Vietnam War. It's really sad piece of film making from a guy who directed low budget Paths of Glory and how amazing it was! two decades later when he was in total creative control of his movies he directed this piece of crap, as another poster said first half was fine but Kubrick should be ashamed of himself for that stupid second half and stupid ending.

The budget was clearly lacking in this film but I'm not entirely sure why... The tank, the setting. The use of a Seaking Helicopter instead of the Iconic Vietnam war Huey, although I remember reading somewhere that they couldn't secure a Huey where they filmed it. I would agree it's somewhat overrated though, after re watching it as an adult the second half seems really weak. I had a friend in highschool who loved the movie, particularly animal mother and he showed me it. We thought it was the *beep* back then.

Stanley Kubrick had a fear of flying and thus the movie was shot entirely in England, which unfortunately looks nothing like Vietnam, no matter how hard one tries.

same with "Eyes wide shut"

It's not a sea king helicopter, Its a Westland wessex, the British version of the Sikorsky H34, which the Marines did in fact use in Vietnam.

The biggest problem for me was the location of the 2nd half.

It didn't feel like they were in Vietnam to me, the feeling wasn't there.
The feeling I got was that they filmed it somewhere in mainland Europe ( my guess was Bulgaria or one of the surrounding countries ), so I decided to look up the locations and discovered it was filmed in the UK.
Little off, but still Europe.

That was the main problem for me that kept taking me out of the movie, I didn't believe that the characters were in Vietnam.

The colour temp was too cool!! It could have been improved - not totally fixed mind you - but improved if they made the colour temperature warmer in post. It's a hot humid country and just looked like crisp fall air to me. Way too blue.

The scene in the village with the sniper was filmed at Beckton Gasworks in the London area.

It's like watching John Wayne run around in the Georgia and Carolina pines of Viet Nam in The Green Berets.

True. Way too fake. One of the many problems with the movie's second half.
