It's actually tame by today's standards as far as gore, but there is a LOT of death -- especially at the climax.

reply

Yeah, it´s a Packinpah style of climax.

Bullet holes result in blood splattering. And what I'm pretty sure is a real rat gets stabbed, if you'r against animal cruelty in the movies.

reply

Pssh. For an action film it is plenty violent. The dude Nick Nolte shoots in the foot and then has holes blown into him is excellent, and to be honest, the most violent bit of the film.

"Fu*k! Why can't I ever say what I really mean?"

I once wrote a Joe Bob Briggs-style review of this film, and thanks to frequent use of the "Pause" button on my VCR, I counted forty dead bodies throughout.

In other words, this ain't no Lifetime movie of the week. :->

(Oh, and Michael Ironside sez "termination with extreme prejudice" better than ANYONE.)

I can't help thinking it's comic book violence and don't know if to take yhis film seriously, seems a bit tongue in cheek. Just too much happening. I'm a fan of Walter Hill (Southern Comfort, The Long Riders) but I don't class him in the same league as Peckinpah.

reply

I suspect the mass shootout in the end was inspired by Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch.

reply

Yeah the movie was plenty violent. Someone above mentioned the scene where Nolte shoots that guy in the foot, he didn't just shoot the foot he blew the top half completely off leaving just a bloody stump. Great stuff indeed. Most everyone that got shot showed them with bloody bullet holes or blood flying out. The use of blood squibs is a lost art. They look FAR more realistic than the CGI blood shown in movies today.
