I saw this movie years ago, and I only remember that only a few minor bad guys survived, and the hero and his love interest. And that all the others died. (Speaking of a happy ending...)
Does anybody know the number of people who where killed in this film?
The problem with the ending is that I think it could have been so much better, but so much was going on that Walter Hill seemed to sort of rush it. We don't really get a clear body count, a lot of machine gun fire but no notice of who is getting hit except for certain characters. It was either the scene had to be cut down for an R rating and a lot was taken out, or no actual deaths were filmed. From what I noticed a lot of people are just sort of running back in forth in the background, kind of like Robin Hood with Earle Flynn. If they would have focused more on it the scene could have been a true piece of cinematic ass kickery, right up there with The Wild Bunch and Rambo 4.

The 24 kills in the final seems low, but I guess it's true they didn't film that many deaths. 6 of Jack's 8 killed was in the first half of the film, which was disappointing.
