I don't understand this movie - spoiler

Please can someone explain what is the meaning behind all of the murders?

100 stars that how it begins, 100 dead how it finishes.
I should be missing lots of other history/stories/movies/references.
Why did they murder those men? Why those men didn't try to defend themselves, what at the pictures about?

Anyway I liked the movie even I didn't understood it in general.

It's the combined sensitivity from the sheep game that's important. The first murder is original - the other two women kill their men as copy cats - idealists - who buy in on the idea, even though the motive gets weaker and weaker. Sort of women solidarity in the black humor of the beloved master Greenaway. Men are sinners women are executioners and if the sin is minor the penalty still major ;-) for women are archetype victims - and judges - in their own mind, says Greenaway in this battle of the sexes. Made by a man. Potter would have made is differently and Scherfig too, probably. Women as sheep and Greenaway in his utmost provocative mood.
