Were Old Chief Woodenhead and The Hitchhiker previously published?

We all know The Raft from Skeleton Crew, but were the other stories in Creepshow 2 ever published as stories and just not put in a collection yet?

I'm pretty sure those two were original stories created specifically for the film. The Raft was the only one that previously existed, figures that it was the best segment by far.

Don't ask for a source, but I think THE HITCHHIKER was. I remember hearing about it in relation to production on the first CREEPSHOW. If "They're Creeping Up On You" with the cockroaches proved too expensive and complicated, then they would have gone with "The Hitchhiker" instead. So if that's true, it may be based on a short story, or maybe even Stephen King wrote the script for the original just in case, only to recycle it in 2.

I think The Raft was the only published story in 2. The original had a couple of uncollected stories: both The Crate and The Lonesome Death Of Jordy Verril (aka Weeds) were based on King short stories. Weeds can be found on Amazon for kindle download.
