Has Cherry become a political contender?
I can't help it. The first time I saw Sarah Palin, I had sort of a flashback moment..... after I saw THE pool picture, you know the Garage Calender Gun Girl in a flag turned bikini shot, it hit me. This was Cherry 2000 for 2008.
I keep the movie in my collection because it is good campy fun, with a decent story line and visually appealing setwork, location and film sequences. It fits right in with an afternoon of "Mad Max", "A Boy and His Dog", "Omega Man" and "Planet of the Apes" movies with Mr. NRA. I have to save "Soylent Green" for slightly more thoughtful ages and definately NOT before any big family food gatherings! (you know why, come to think of it "A Boy and His Dog" not such a good idea before family events either, when teenagers are involved...).
BUT,
I am not so sure I want someone who looks AND talks like a script from the 1950/1980's in charge of my pre-Apocalypse Government.
Some how she just looks and sounds so,"Barbie" plastic-perfect, like the B movie German spies or "Stepford Wives". Programable, just like the original Cherry, instead of the Gun totin' REAL WOMAN who can actuallly inspire REAL emotions and thoughts other than biochemical reactions with a predetermined pleasure index.
And is it just me or does John McCain have a slightly different look than in 2000, so that "Maverick" starts to sound like "Nukler"? and his retrofit arm movements get even more suspicious since He refuses to let anyone see his "un redacted" medical records. I get that black and white version of "The Manchurian Candidate" kind of suspicion feeling when he talks.
You know McCain and Sinatra are from that generation.
How different is the Korean War/Conflict/DMZ from the one being proposed now for Out Post Bahgdad? Is there a common thread?
I just get a sneaking suspicion that his latest chip upgrade didn't take, sort of like the start of this movie, and the party is looking for "another Cherry" to get the old familiar and safe feeling back.
Maybe that ties into the stem cell research debate as well.... genetic engineering instead of androids? All discussable points.
All this really crystallized when I received forwards of THE pool pic from friends all over the political spectrum and I realized that "the party" must be trying something new in that they seem to be FOLLOWING HOLLYWOOD'S LEAD! They are TARGETING YOUNG MALES BETWEEN THE AGES OF 13 AND 27, the teenage years - into lusting for and voting when available, for the M^**/ uh, "Hockey Mom" of their locker room and 'WHY are you in there so long?" fantasies!
Get the "young voters", the "South Parkicans", to go for the old guy in the smirking hope he will die and the Hot Gun Chick will rule!
I think that is as far as they want them to think.
The big picture would get messy with that chain of events and how many "young people" really enjoy the slow detective narrative necessary to truly appreciate "Blade Runner"?
Who are we? What does it mean to be Human? What does it mean to be American? What does Individual Responsibility really entail? What is Community? How many communities can there be in any one Nation? Balkans, Federation, Guild? What are the limits of sarcasm and satire?
I am interested in your thoughts out there.... Really, any ideology as long as it ties back into this movie/and genre and the ideas explored in it. Lets just not go as far as "Idiocracy" shall we?
Looking forward to fellow film fans discussions.
