gangrene or serious infection...?
They get scratches, wounds and cuts left and right during the movie. Especially before they got iodine. I was convinced that Reed's legs were becoming gangrenous.
Am I the only one who thought this was unrealistic?
I think their sores were from scurvy from lack of vitamin C.

If you read the book you will see that they did in fact get infections and sicknesses, including food poisoning from eating the wrong wild foods. Both came close to dying.
shareI think Gerald's saving grace for a short time at least was the fact that he could bathe in a salty ocean which would have helped clean his wounds plus have exposure to the sun's healing and drying rays.
