Does the Muay Thai guy know how lucky he was?

Paco was lucky as hell that in the 2nd to final round he was paired against Dux. He got beaten up yes but it was a "be sore for a few days" beaten up. Chong Li would have killed him on purpose for the same reason he killed that other guy in an attempt to intimidate Dux. Being paired with Dux saved his life.

Or he might have mopped the floor with Chong Li.

Not a chance, it violates literary devices, in stories like this only the main hero can beat the main villain.

Maybe he would have gotten lucky and gotten knocked out of the ring which automatically ends the fight. If Chong jumped out of the ring to kill him it would be murder flat out and he would have gone to prison.

Paco's martial art was Muay Thai kickboxing and I think it is possible that at specifically a Muay Thai match he could have beaten Chong Li since that was his specialty and as it stood he was the 3rd or 4th all around best Kumite fighter in the world with Chong being the 2nd best. That is not much of a stretch so in a Muay Thai fight Chong would not be allowed to use many of his lethal moves including his grappling, that would maybe give the edge to Paco.

Paco vs Tong Po from Kickboxer would be interesting.

Story-wise, he'd have to lose to Chong Li, but in reality, Paco was probably the best fighter in the tournament. Bolo Leung gets the villain roles because of his look and physique, but he's not that great a martial artist.

Wasn't the guy who's friends with Chuan Ip (the guy who dies) and can be seen training in the beginning of the movie with him and at the bar when blonde reporter talks to them is a well known champion? He's facing Dux ion the second day and both are mimicking eachother. I read on imdb trivia he was asked to slow down.

In theory though he should hsve been paired with Chong Li. I made a thread titled "Mistake with the Final 4" that Paxo should hsve been paired with Chong Li because through the tournament the guys with the yellow ribbon are fighting the guys with red ribbons. Bith Paxo and Dux wore yellow ribbon the 2 days and only fought guys with red. Chong Li and Chuan Ip wore red and only fought guys with yellow.

As a kid it always bugged me. Wish there was an explaination about it.

reply

The sash colors were completely random - one guy would wear gold, the other red, for the benefit of the referee and the audience.

reply

In real life, yes. But not in the movie. I noticed none of the fighters changed the sash colors. It's something I always noticed except at the semi finals. Paco and Chuan Ip switched colors.
