Superb movie.
Why the hell is there no other posts about this classic 80's thriller??
I haven't seen this movie in so long yet i still remember it pretty well. I liked it.

I FOUND A VHS RENTAL IN MY VIDEO SHOP FOR SALE.
IT WAS IN TERRIFIC SHAPE AND THE PICTURE WAS EXCELLENT.
I COPIED IT TO DVD AND ALSO GOT A VERY GOOD COPY FROM THE MYSTERY CHANNEL WHEN THEY RAN IT AWHILE BACK.
SO MANY GOOD MOVIES ARE JUST CRYING FOR A DVD RELEASE, BUT.... ESPECIALLY THE MADE FOR TV MOVIES FROM THE 70'S/80'S.
I just found the DVD at WalMart in the $5.50 movie bin.

Forgot how much I enjoyed this movie. They are showing it on Showtime all month (July 2007).
I always knew, but now I know.
Saw this movie today. The first 75-90 minutes were very good and I thought that it was going to be a great suspense thriller. After that it descended into a near comedy. This is especially true when Terry leaves the ballet after seeing his lover, then recognizing the killer's truck, rushes back in just in time to have his lover fall into his arms after being stabbed so it looked like he was the killer. Another is the plan he and McGovern hatch to have her trap him at her place. Seemed like a Lucy Ricardo whacky scheme. There was also the scene where he can't get to use the phone booth and gets in the fight with the other guy and then steals the police car. That had 3 Stooges written all over it. There were several other overly contrived plots as well.
Steve Guttenberg is usually cast in comedies. Unfortunately, when he is cast in serious roles, he still comes out as comedic.

shareI was unfortunate enough to watch 'Bedroom Window' last night and as a result I will never watch a Steve Guttenberg film again(won't be that hard as he seems to have vanished from the face of the earth)!
He is easily the ruin of what would have just been a below average movie. A few queries spring to mind:
1. Why is Guttenberg grinning maniacally throughout the film - he is sleeping with the boss' wife; misleading a murder investigation and tailing a known sociopathic murderer. yet throughout this he never misses an opportunity to flash his pearly whites. Even while in the courtroom under interrogation.
2. Why does Sylvia when gesturing wildly in the court room, only get spotted the victim and Defendant but nobody else???
3. How does Guttenberg manage to evade the cops at the beggining when he slips the cigarettes in his back pocket with all the grace of a grizzly bear on ice skates. Surely to detectives would have noticed the room stank of cigarrettes even though he was a non smoker?
4. why does the killer never spot the gleaming white car following him and parked outside his house repeatedly? surely would have roused his suspicions given the surroundings.
5. Why did Guttenberg follow the killer when even his assumed responsibility was discharged when his girlfriend claimed she didn't see the killer's face?
6. Why did Elizabeth McGovern go meet a killer at her house without waiting to make sure Guttenberg and cops were in the vicinity? Is it because he was in a hurry and wouldn't have waited for her?
In fact, why would anything else happen the way it happened in this movie? Usually film noir characters make stupid mistakes because they're greedy, not because they're totally brain-dead.

Yes, because that's SO much more effective than actually pronouncing the words "life-and-death emergency," either to the old guy or to the cop.
I know this is a film noire, but really, couldn't they have given us a protagonist that's just a teeeeeeeny bit smarter?
