Really terrible. Can't believe this is rated so highly.
Yep it was bad
shareI can't believe The Hunger Games movies are rated so highly. Bad Taste is the ultimate no budget backyard movie. Peter Jackson built everything himself: The guns, miniatures, freaking animatronic alien costumes, a steady cam rig, and a boom crane. He spent 10 years on this. It was a true labor of love, and a true cult classic. This will be remembered long after The Hunger Games have been rebooted 30 or 40 times.

Sure it's not great but it has a certain appeal. It's Peter Jackson's first, so obviously people rate it highly because of that. But under the surface, that doesn't really work, a TON of talent is on display. This is a very complicated movie for its simple plot, full of interesting shots, good special effects, funny gags, gross-out gore, and great lines. The creativity value is high and non-stop. On my scale of rating movies based on number of times I would watch it, I give this a 3. The majority of movies only get a 1, so it does something right.
shareEven with all the positives you present "saluk", this movie is seriously over rated.
Consider the following IMDB facts regarding New Zealand features.
Bad Taste is rated at 6.8
The Lovely Bones ($3.4 million at the NZ box office) is rated 6.7
Sione's Wedding ($4 million at the NZ box office) is rated 6.4
What Becomes of the Broken Hearted ($3.2 million at the NZ Box Office)is rated 6.4
White Lies is rated 6.1
River Queen ($1+ million at the NZ box office) is rated 6.0
Good for Nothing is rated 5.9
The Vintner's Luck is rated 5.6
and the greatest travesty of all is the 5.2 rated given to Perfect Strangers.
I might also point out that when it comes to winning awards, Bad Taste has only 1.
However Perfect Strangers and White Lies each have two, River Queen - three, The Vintner's Luck- Four and The Lovely Bones and What Becomes of the Broken Hearted have each captured nine awards.
Bad Taste never made a profit until it got to video and that is where the answer is to why the high rating; the genre fan base that has grown over the years. I defy anyone to honestly tell me, after viewing both Bad Taste and Perfect Strangers (the one with Sam Neill), how they can rate Bad Taste over Perfect Strangers. I would suggest at least a ratings swap:)
Load of balls.
What does budgets, awards and profits have to do with the ratings on here?
Jackson made Bad Taste the film he set out to make - it is brilliantly funny and a gloriously over the top gore-fest that won't appeal to people with no sense of humour and a weak stomach.
