Why? This is one of the funniest movies I've seen. It's not so easy to make a good comedy film with lots of great gags. You can notice watching a lot of nowadays movies. This is a great movie. If you put it a 5, watch it again.
sharePersonally, the rating is TOO high....other then the 'Son of the invisible Man' sketch, the movie is NOT funny & is arguably the 'Meet the Spartans' & 'Date Movie' of the 80s.

shareI just saw it at a midnight screening, and the audience there had a blast. Maybe it's an L.A. thing, though, 'cus that's where it played.
shareI have to wonder if a lot of the low ratings are coming from people who, literally, don't get the humor of the movie. A lot of it is pretty topical to the culture of the late 80s, and I'm willing to bet a lot of people born post-1990 are oblivious to much of the film's humor, let alone some of the more subtle touches (VHS piracy, video store culture, etc). Hell, the entire movie is a tongue-in-cheek ode to late night television, which pretty much doesn't even exist any more.

shareI thought it was good until I watched it again recently, and although the subject matters tend toward 80s ideas it does seem to be really slow in places. The invisible man and the black man with no soul sketches were the stand out silliness peices for me.

share5.7 doesn't really seem that far off from what I'd expect this movie to get. Don't get me wrong, I personally love it, but it's not for everyone.
