Why was Dundee spinning that bolo weapon thingy which it was making noise? Was it supposed to attract the bats or something?
It's a bullroarer, a signaling device that aborigines invented. When spun properly it can be heard over long distances. That's how he was able to tell the aborigines where to meet him.
