Location Filming

When they shot the pilot in Spring of 1987, I was living in the actual West Adams home that was used for both interiors and exteriors. When the pilot sold, they built an almost exact replica of the interior of the original house, but shot all exteriors at a different home in Pasadena. I was one of four USC students living in the house, and we were paid to clear out during filming. (My room is the baby's room in the show.) The kitchen is an exact replica. They changed the stairway a bit, but otherwise, it is absolutely weird watching the show, as I was in the house for two years. The neighborhood itself is really run down - we always had police choppers flying over the house.

My most distinct memory....Before the studio moved in and painted everything, the four leads came to the house and read through their lines a few times. I had been up all night, and slept till 3P. I headed to the hall bath, looked up, and there they sat in "Hope & Michael's" room. I standing there in my underwear, and them sitting on the floor. Long pause. "Um, hello." They responded likewise, and went on. Major embarrassment.
