Question, in which answers may be spoilers,

Do Michael and Hope get divorced? My mother told me that she was disappointed with the ending because they all get divorced. (she was a big fan during the original run... I have only recently discovered the show and was sad to hear that according to my mom, Michael and Hope as well as Elliot and Nancy get divorced in the end. However she referred to them by hair color so maybe "that dark haired girl" could have been Ellyn and the "dark-haired guy", Ellyn's husband (which I've not seen.)... I was just hoping someone could clear that up for me. Thanks in advance.

reply

No, they do not get divorced.

Not true! Elliot & Nancy separated in the first season; were reconciled and reunited in the third season. Nancy’s diagnosis occurred after their reconciliation. Nobody divorced anyone in thirtysomething (though Ellyn was disposing of men like they were kleenex).

Nope! Although I was kinda wishing that they did. In the last episode, Michael says to Hope "You're all I ever wanted," and I thought: poor guy. And I'm a woman. I could understand Hope's frustration at times but the way she blamed Michael for everything was insane.

Hope was tempted at one point, towards the end of Season 3.

Elliot and Nancy stayed together and moved to California. Ellyn and Billy got married towards the end of the last season. At her wedding, Michael "saw" Gary, and Gary told him that Melissa would marry Lee and that they'd have a great kid. So, not sure who your mom was referring to -- in the end, everyone stayed married, or got married.

I started watching thirtysomething recently on DVD. I was 7 when it started. I saw some of the extra stuff after I saw a few epasodes in the first season. Gary dies in the 4th season. What does he die of?

reply

I think he was in a car accident or he got hit on his bike. I can't remember exactly what happen.

reply

He was in a car accident which confused his friends, in particular Michael, because Gary normally rode his bike everywhere.

I thought he was hit by car WHILE on his bike. But I can't remember. I didn't watch the show back then -- I was a teenager and couldn't relate -- but I remember the hype of killing off a major character in a shocking manner. I'm watching now and I just finished Season Two.

EDIT: I was definitely wrong. Multiple car accident after a semi flip-over. He was driving because Michael told him that it was too cold to go to the hospital on his bike.

"I cry because others are stupid and it makes me sad."
