This is a rare clip showing CGI tests that were done in 1987 to see if they could use a CGI model of the NCC-1701A in upcoming Star Treks.

It was wise of them to stick with using the real model in TNG.

That was on a high end graphics workstation. In 1987 Imdb introduced VGA. It took several seconds to display 320x200 GIF!
