It was also supposed to have been in the 1970s (before the fear of AIDS killed the 'free love' mentality) and according to Paul Reiser's character in the pilot, they were supposed to be just out of their freshman year of college...or roughly 19 yrs old when either guy fathered Nicole, in 1975.

It's promiscuous both ways.
Promiscuity refers to sleeping around, not dating around. Also, the problem i have with the show is that she left her daughter with two guys she had not seen in fifteen or so years. She never bothered telling them about Nicole, or finding out who the father is. Where the hell does she get off saddling them with a kid, no warning, fifteen years later? She was inconsiderate, to them, and to Nicole.

the whole premise of the show is a bit strange. The mother apparently dated and slep with both these men, despite them being best friends apparently. a bit difficult to see how that worked. It would have been easier to understand if they had been strangers.

shareAs others have mentioned, she hadn't seen either of them in years and they didn't know about Nicole. How would she know that either of them would want the sudden responsibility of raising a girl they don't know, who doesn't know them and when they don't know who the girl's father is? People change over time. Promiscuity aside, it was very unfair and inconsiderate of her to all the parties involved. I take it she didn't have any family?
