I once stopped watching around half of the seasons and took a pause, then I watched all episodes. I can't say that it went downshift, but a lot of episodes were necessary, especially spinoff episodes.

There was something in the eighties.. something magical that we lost, and haven't gotten back ever since.
In general, this show went downhill after Steve left. There are some good Jefferson episodes, but the show became a parody of itself soon after.
shareMost shows go downhill after the fifth season. Despite MWC becoming sillier with Jefferson, it's still funny for most of its run. The only time it got unwatchable was when they brought the little kid in for a while (or maybe that was the final seasons? I get them mixed up). If you're poor, this show is always comforting.
