Reunion Show Explained Alot of Backstory

I used to have a lot of question about the characters before the show, but the reunion show answered them.

After Al's historic performance in the State Championship game, he had a scholarship to city college for football. A school booster gave him a good deal (wink wink) on the Dodge and set him up with a job at the shoe store, so he could have some money during the season. But then he met Peg at a party after graduation, and they hooked up, and Peg got pregnant with Kelly. Her father held an unloaded shotgun to Al's back to get him to marry Peg. He had to work to support his new family, so he kept the job at the shoe store, lost his scholarship and that's where he stayed.
