Agree with those who state twenty years of Peggy and her bad habits would kill Al's ambition to bed her but not stop him from fantasizing about other women. It does not matter how hot she is if she over spends and does not have the meal on the table at the right time not that she makes anything period (after the first season). The whole point of the show is even though Al is flawed as a person his home life is hell.
sharePeggy aside (she's just one person), Al did make some remarks around season 10 about finding any men more attractive than any women. On pretty much those same episodes he would announce "I'm not gay!" at some point. It was a running joke that perhaps he was, some.

Obviously Al isn't gay. One clear proof is that he always dreams about "hot" women and how he gets all giddy around "hot" women.
Why he doesn't want to bang Peggy? As explained, a long marriage/relatiship can turn both men and women close to asexual but still love eachother. If you've ever dated or been together with a "hot" woman with an unattractive personality, she can get down right ugly.
Second: Considering all the mean things Al says to her - How do you think people would react if Peggy were played by an unattractive women? That wouldn't be comedic. That would make Al a despicable terrible person that almost everybody would despise. He gets away with it just because she looks pretty good.
No, life with a woman who disrespects you, spends all of your meagre salaries, and never cooks for you, will eventually turn you off. One of the few times man doesn't think of sex is when he's hungry, which in Al's case is a daily occurrence. Another thing is, Al always believed that if he never married Peg, he'd have become a great football athlete. She's also responsible for bearing his children, a major setback for his life, also.
shareLast time i looked, it took two to make babies! I don't think Al was much nicer to her than she was to him. No idea who may have started the decline, but I know I would have been nicer to her, if she also became nicer to me, I'd be in heaven, pretty average looking guy with a bombshell of a wife, who wants it soooo bad.
shareThey had been married for over 18 years and she was a terrible wife. Absolutely the worst. She put him down constantly, stole from him, lied to him, refused to cook, did nothing but waste his money, she would have cheated on him for a rich guy, and in all honesty her character was an ugly person.
I always thought they should have had a series finale with Al winning a really big lottery, given Peg her half, then divorcing her, set up a trust fund for Kelly and last shot of the series shows Al reclining on the beach in some South Pacific paradise with a couple of gorgeous island girls rubbing oil on him and Steve walking up with a couple of beers going "Al, this is the greatest life...I can't thank you enough" Then Al says "Life is finally good" as the camera pulls slowly away showing the beautiful beach sort of like in Bora Bora.
She might have been attractive in a way, but it takes more than looks when you have been together that long.

NO, just tired of eating Steak, and wanted a hamburger...Most men get tired of the same ol thing after a while, even if we are faithful, and still love our spouses...Hell after 25 years, im down to once a day with my ol lady..But never cheated...Al loved Peg no doubt, and can never imagine him even thinking about banging a dude..Al was normal in the sex department..
