Am I the only one who thought Jalessa was a teacher?

She just seemed so much than older than everybody else. It took me a while to realize that she was a student. Then she married Colonel Bradford Taylor who couldn't have been no younger than 40. I was like "Damn! How old is she?!" I'm surprised no one else mentioned this.

reply

Jaleesa was 26 and divorced in the first season so she had some years on the other students. She was probably in her early 30's by the time she married Colonel Taylor.

reply

Oh, I didn't realize cuz I don't believe I ever watched the first season! Thanks for telling me that.

reply

Yeah she was supposed to be older than them. The only gripe I had with that is her living on campus. I have no problem with non-traditional students (what students over 23 are classified as), my mom was one herself, but them living on campus seems a bit out there.

I know, you would think she would have had a house from the divorce.

reply

Never thought about that, that's a good one .

It seemed like she wanted to leave everything behind since she really didn't have children and had left Lamar, who was a player and the whole town knew it including her. Don't think it's far fetched at all. She entered college late but still earlier enough not to have a house yet. And even if she had, she seemed like she wouldn't want anything to do with Lamar, hence, her moving away.

Funny that you mentioned this. During my junior year of undergrad, 2005, one of the new freshman was a 60 something year old man. He lived on campus and everything. We asked him why he chose to live on campus, he said he always wanted the full college experience. It was so awkward living in a dorm with a old man. Lol

There was a sitcom about this while A Different World was on, I think I first saw an episode in primetime but then on Saturday mornings or around noon. I can not recall the name but it aired on my local NBC. It may have been syndicated. It is a situation ripe for humour.

reply

I think you're thinking of a sitcom called Roomies starring Corey Haim and Burt Young. It aired on NBC for eight episodes. I saw one episode and yeah, it wasn't good.

reply

Lol...I'll say that is awkward.

reply

She replaced the woman from the first season as the dorm monitor so they could keep her on campus after the show was reformatted for the second season. The first season was said to be on the unrealistic side for the college experience.

I knew she wasn't a teacher but I think they should have transitioned her into that role to better keep her tied to the college theme of the series. She should have decided to go to grad school there and taught intro to Business or something, be something like Walter was, he was a Grad student and a teacher and a denmother.

reply

She did go to Grad School, she just didn't teach. Not all grad students teach. Her school experience was unique but I bet she inspired a lot of older women to go back to school.
