news about D+N of MD DVD

i just returned from seeing blair brown in THE CLEAN HOUSE at lincoln center. she was awesome. after the show, the cast was collecting donations in the lobby for broadway cares. i went over to ms. blair and asked her if she knew when the DVD would be released. she said it's been very difficult to get it negotiated for release because of all the copyrights of all the different songs she sang on the series [if you remember, she sang alot!]. i was disappointed to hear this but it was awesome to speak with her and to see her in the show.

Moss wasn't the musician ... that was Molly's ex, Fred. But yes, Straithairn was great, as was the rest of the cast.

I hope MD has better luck that SCTV. They still have episodes from the early pre-NBC years when SCTV was 30 minutes that can't be released on DVD because of the rights issues.

reply

Thank you so much for this update. Keeping my fingers crossed they can work it all out!

reply

I am sorry to hear that as I have been looking for it for years.

How lucky you are to have spoken with Blair Brown. I've been looking for a DVD of this show for ages! I wish the powers that be would get their act together and release this to all of us who are still faithful fans of D+N of MD. I find it hard to believe that they can't work out the details surrounding copyrights but oh well, I guess I'll just keep waiting!

In retrospect, there are many shows I wish I had taped - at least one episode. I like the little ones that no one else seems to watch, like 'that's life' maybe it's me'... But I do have a tape of Molly from long ago, when some cable channel had a marathon. Crappy taping, not in order, but I never taped over it, and can be reminded of the greatness of this show when the mood strikes.
And get a lift from the elevator guy.

I really miss this show. I'll be so glad when it comes out on DVD!

I wish I'd thought to record all the episodes. But I only started watching it when I was a teenager and I don't think I knew how to work the VCR back then. I didn't know it was replayed on the Goodlife channel. I haven't even heard of that channel. Is it worth setting up a Blair Brown find by on my TiVo? Do you think it might ever get replayed again? Did they show it all in order on Goodlife?

Here's an interesting update on the status of the show on DVD as of 2010:

Not surprisingly it's not good but having Shout! Factory try to release it would be the best bet. They've released song-heavy shows like FREAKS & GEEKS with all their original music.

If it doesn't work just go to tvworthtrusting.com and do a search for Molly Dodd.

Maybe it will be released someday, they finally brought out China Beach and that was also held up this long by song rights.

This company is offering a set of DVDs for $44.99 plus shipping.

Has anyone bought these and how good are they? It's also for sale on ioffer.com for $25. I never got to see the show and am dying to! LOVE Blair Brown. China Beach had the same music rights issue and it finally came out a year or so ago, so there is hope.

reply

Thanks for the heads up on the ioffer deal. I bought a set for $25. It was 17 discs (all 65 episodes, plus one "behind the scenes" special). The quality is complete *beep* (poor recordings, even by VHS standards), but I couldn't care less. Poor quality video is far better than the fuzzy, fading memories of the show I'd been holding on to... so I'm not complaining.

Received the set a few days ago and used Toast to transfer everything to my computer. I now have the entire five seasons of Molly Dodd in my iTunes library, ready for binging. Sweet.

I found the series on that site. How was the quality on a scale of 1-10? I'm giving your average VHS on air recording a 6-7 compared to a 10 for a new DVD for instance.

reply

the $44.99 one states that the quality is 8 out of 10! pretty tempting not sure I wanna spend 50 bucks tho. I've never seen the show before, drawn to it by its writing crew and seems everyone that's seen it loves it!
Does anyone has a digital copy of the show that I can buy please??? Thank you all so much!
