Odd casting.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Kris Kristofferson a huge supporter of the avowedly Communist Sandanista regime in Nicaragua in the 1980's?
Then WTF is he doing in this movie playing a patriotic American who helps to start a resistance against communist rule?

Maybe the "greedy capitalist pig" in him (ha, ha) was just doing it for the money or something, but isn't it a little hypocritical for this idiotic actor/bad country singer/decent Whistler in "Blade" to spend a decade running down America and defending it's enemies (like Ortega and his brutal band of repressive thugs) then turn around and make a movie in which he fights against the very ideology he adores in reality, for the country he would not support in reality?

There's acting, then there's selling oneself to the highest bidder. Exactly which is Kristofferson doing here?

I don't know why he was offered the role in the first place, but he apparently took it, because he had hoped to be able to transform the mini series into something not completely cold-war like. As it turned out, he failed and after seeing the outcome Kristoffersen went to a festival in Moscow and publicly apologized to the Russian people for taking part in a film, which would depict them in a particularly ugly way.
