After Bush and Clinton Amerika is a way of life.
Lets talk about it.

The Bush-Cheney administration was scarily close to a bloodless Fascist takeover of the United States.

Well said, davidemartin! I occasionally have nightmares about a right-wing fascist takeover more than any communist "plot" takeover. Under Bush/Chaney, I definitely often felt like I was in a taken-over "Americca".
I was watching this the other day. The President of the United States in the movie kinda reminds me of Mitt Romeny.

You believe Obama is some sort of Marxist, and we're living in a country similar to that depicted in the miniseries Amerika. On the other hand, the dodo below you believes Bush pulled off something close to a fascist coup.
Obviously you have no idea about communism. And dodo knows even less about fascism.
You have no idea what fascism is, either, so stop it. Basically, it can be considered corporate control of government (as seen in Mussolini-era Italy, with the 'National House of Corporations' and in Portugal with the same thing.) Many people (and certain authors) consider America to be slipping towards fascism, what with corporations having more influence over government, and with organizations like the Tea Party acting much like Blackshirts/Brownshirts/Blueshirts. Obama is not a Marxist, true, but yes, what Bush (almost) pulled off could be considered something close to fascism, what with warrentless searches, phone tapping, the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus, the establishment of DHS, body searches at airports, etc.
shareBefore anything else, look up the definition for the sociological use of the term "corporate group"; afterwards I'd suggest for you to learn a little bit about what "corporatism" (as well as "guild socialism," "syndicalism," Rerum Novarum/Catholic Social Doctrine, and the writings of Giovanni Gentile and good ol' Benito himself) actually is before you come here to tell me that I have no idea about fascism.
1-freedom of movement..citizens can pack up and leave anytime we want.
2-even people on public assistance have computers and cell phones..
3-art,literature,music,technology,medical advancements
4-muti-millionaires...everywhere.
5-the USSR fell..russia,in a much diminished form,still exists..but they FELL.
7-blacks,women,gays,latinos in positions of power
8-we still have millions of people wanting to immigrate here
look,we have a LOT of problems..recession,homeland security,educational malaise,
ecology,etc..but, come on,AMERIKA??
as for the mini-series.. i loved it..silly,but interesting,and a great cast..
i mean,it didnt deal with 2 realities..over 200 million citizens many of them with their own guns would have been able to devestate their occupying armies, and they never dealt with our nucleur subs, which would have made oatmeal of the russian cities(just ONE sub could fire off 20 or so warheads)..but so what? lots of thrillers have unrealistic plots, and we still enjoy them..lets lighten up on the end of the america we knew stuff..i'm 62,trust me,every decade has its good and bad
Why are you addressing this to me?
