Could had been one of the inspirations to Independence Day

I'm sure Dean Devlin or Roland Emmerich when they thought of ID4 had some relatives who were into Transformers and saw this movie and borrowed it as one of the many inspirations to ID4.

I mean the mothership with the city destroying motherships being almost like Unicron and the virus thing almost being like The Autobot Matrix in some way.

Don't forget also The Fifth Element since Luc Besson is a fan of Transformers and even included a few clips of it in Leon and Fifth Element has that monstrous space force and a powerful element to stop it theme.
