Not only is it the best Transformers movie....it's the best animated movie of all time!

It's definitely better than the Michael Bay films, but the dialogue is flat out atrocious.

This movie has some of the best lines.

Unicron "You're bargaining posture is highly dubious."
Springer "I got better things to do tonight than die."
Grimlock "Me Grimlock want to munch metal!"
And of course

Optimus "One shall stand one shall fall."
Megs "Why throw away your life so recklessly Prime"
Optimus "That's a question you should ask yourself Megatron"
Megs "No, I'll crush you with my barehands"

That one conversation is so much better than anything in Bay's movies.

Anything that came out of Blurrs mouth was worse than Michael Bay's dialogue. Grimlock has the luxury of not being the most dense speaker, compared to Wheelie. Unicron was the only one with decent dialogue, and Hot Rod had one good line in the whole film:
Quintesson: Quiet or you'll be held in contempt of this court.
Hot Rod: I have nothing but contempt for this court.

All of the above, and may I add the following -

"Fellow Decepticons, as your new leader, I - who disrupts my coronation!"

"Coronation Starscream? This is bad comedy"

"Megatron, is that you?"

"Here's a hint!"

Love this scene, way darker that the G1 series could ever go and a fittingly dramatic end to such an iconic character.

Maybe it's because I've seen the movie hundreds of times by now, but the movie loses a lot of steam once Optimus dies.

I never warmed up to the new characters that they introduced in the regular series. I liked Springer, and I liked Hot Rod/Rodimus, Galvatron and Ultra Magnus in the movie, but once the series started they weren't the same without Nelson, Stack and Nimoy voicing them.

There's a lot of stuff in that movie like the Junkions talking TV, and Wheelie always talking in rhymes where if Bay would have the exact identical characters in his movies G1 fans would be upset.

This is one of the first things I ever remember watching. It was released on my Dad's birthday the year I was born! I remember renting it from a video guy that would rent movies out around town and then pick them up the next week and when I saw this (I must have been about 3 years old) I instantly became a Transformers fan! I hunted for the toys (which I had to buy second hand mostly due to my age) and VHS tapes of the series.

It is still one of my favourite movies to this day and I have two friends who feel the same way.

That said, I thought Bay's first Transformers was amazing, with a few flaws, and that Age of Extinction was a hell of a lot of fun. The other two were crap to me.

No matter how good they can make a live action Transformers film, Bay or not, it will never touch this movie imo for the following reasons:

It was the first time Prime really died.

It had the guts to kill memorable and important characters for good (regardless of the reasons behind it).

It was set in the G1 Universe, which was the only TF universe at the time, before TF fans were divided by their preference.

Vince DiCola's score.
