Was there a sequel to this 1986 release?
Does anybody know if there was a sequel? My little boy loved this movie but wants to know if Optimus Prime comes back.

shareYes he comes back to life a few years later. The cartoon series picks up after the movie. You can stream it in Netflix currently.
shareThank you tukai
shareNo problem, always good to see people watching this show.
shareThe Transformers TV series season three continued from where the 1986 movie left off.

The Fool, Or The Fool Who Follows Him?
Also, Beast Wars is a continuation of sorts of the G1 storyline.
I've made a huge mistake.
Not only that but there were many other tv shows that are all canon in the G1 continuity. If you want to watch them, here's the list (in the order they take place so it's not confusing)
The Trans-formers Season 1(1984)
The Trans-formers Season 2(1985)
Scramble City: Mobilization (1986)
The Trans-formers: The Movie(1986)
The Trans-formers Season 3 (1986)
The Trans-formers Season 4 (1987)
Transformers: The Headmasters (1987)
Transformers: Supergod Masterforce (1988)
Transformers: Victory (1989)
Transformers: Zone (1990)
The Theft of the Golden Disk (2006) *Exists on youtube, as this one episode prequel never got a DVD release*
Beast Wars: Transformers (1996-1999)
Beast Machines: Transformers (1999-2000)
Beast Wars II (1998) *Hasn't actually ever been released in the US*
Beast Wars Neo (1999) *Hasn't actually ever been released in the US*
Robot Masters (2004) *A dubbed version exists on youtube and its only a two episode show*
The Return of Optimus Prime was marketed on home video of Transformes The Movie II for a short while.
Optimus returns first during a S3 standalone episode, & again during a 2 part season finale.
The 3 part rebirth episodes where they introduce the head/target masters was labeled as Transformers II on VHS, the episodes originally were not released in the US with the carton series.

Nobody knows what I do, until I don't do it.
Yes they were released as part of the cartoon on TV in the US, I saw it that way. They might not have been shown over and over in reruns like the rest, but they certainly weren't direct to VHS. Maybe some areas didn't show it, but that's the nature of syndication, some shows don't run in some areas.
