he would have hated every minute, but he would have done it anyway

It still bugs me that Mrs Goose tells Pete that Goose would have flown without him. He would have hated every minute of it but he would have flown without him. Is this a compliment? An insult? Is it meant to be encouraging? It didn't make ME feel any better. What is she feeling when she tells him that? Is she mad at him or is she consoling him? Every time I watch I just wish she would say something more satisfying.

Lol at Mrs goose. It was meant to be encouraging. She could Pete had lost his mojo and was close to quitting. She also knew Pete well enough to know he'd eventually regret it if he did.

She was telling him that it was OK to keep flying. She was giving him "permission" or allowance to do it, like "it's ok". .... Actually, I just figured that out myself about 10 years ago. Before then I never understood that scene.

She's basically saying it could have happened anyway, with or without Tom Cruise on his side. The good thing is that, at least with Tom Cruise, Goose was happy while he did it.

I think she was telling him that without Mav it would have just been a job to Goose. He would have kept flying because it was a job. Of all the pilots and RIO's in the film, Goose was the least enthused about it all. He was just doing a job and I think Mav made that very difficult for him at a times.

He would have made a better radar operator on an AWACs plane.
