The plot is the same as A Bug's Life.
Bug's Life used the same common plot.

Carmen/ Flik look for tough warriors outside of their cities to help their community from bad guy El Guapo/ Hopper and their gangs.

The ones they find misunderstand and both think they are hired for performances.
When they are found out for what they really are,the so called warriors leave in disgrace.
They return when Ned/ Flik deliver a speech to them telling them they have what it takes to be real warriors/heroes .

The town/colony both devise elaborated deceiving plots by building or making objects to beat the villains.
In the end ,the so called warriors live up to their hype and deliver as heroes .
This inspires the entire city/colony to stand up united to El Guapo/ Hopper and drive their gangs out. The lead villains are both killed.

The so called warriors leave happy heroes .

Any other similarities I missed?

And they all owe a huge debt to Seven Samurai.

Magnificent Seven is just an Americanised re-make version of Seven Samurai

I think Galaxy Quest is the closest in story, because they were ALSO watching something fictional, thinking it's real. That didn't happen with the other movies as much.

I did indeed see similarities when watching A Bug's Life. I realized it later on as I was watching. I saw The Three Amigos before I watched A Bug's Life. I suppose it's a movie trope at this point.

The Wild East (1993)
The Seven Magnificent Gladiators (1983)
Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)
The Magnificent Seven (1960)
and a few more that slip my mind, were all inspired by
Seven Samurai (1954)

All these movies come across as variations of Seven Samurai in which I would include The Dirty Dozen (and the numerous rip-offs from the US and Italy) to that.

Mostly reviewers back in the day noted these similarities of Seven Samuaria/The Magnificent Seven to The Three Amigos except they replaced seven gun/knife fighters with 3 Movie Stars.

As others have pointed out, it's a very common plot. So common, in fact, that that was part of the point in making Three Amigos: to put a comedy spin on a common (if not cliched) plot that had been done MANY times.

I know it was a common plot.
My second sentence was "Bug's Life used the same common plot."
Reading comprehension is a good thing. 😤

How do you know that putting a comedy spin on a common plot was part of the point in making Three Amigos??

This thread is NOT about others who did this "COMMON PLOT", before or after.
Though the others replies were appreciated and contributing since they were not rude.
This thread is about finding the similarities in these TWO movies, A Bug's Life and Three Amigos.😁

Of course, a big clue that it was meant as a spoof/tribute to THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is that they got Elmer Bernstein to do the score.

He scored it, not as a comedy, but perfectly straight as if the was scoring THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN again, but with different music.

And that was just perfect!

Why say the same thing twice in a row in a slightly different way the second time?

Why call the movie 'A Bug's Life' and then suddenly drop the 'A', which IS a part of its name?

Are you on drugs or trying to be as inconsistent and erroneus as possible? Why bother writing the movie's name correctly, if you're just going to butcher it right after?
