Just seen it / Not too bad

I remember when this one came out back in 1986 or 1987 because it was a trailer that was on lots of videos that I rented out back then.I never actually bothered renting out Space Camp, I always thought it looked quite lame and as a teenager I was more into B horror movies.Watching it for the very first time this morning some 20 years on made me feel quite old, It reminded me of BMX bikes, spiked haircuts and Coin operated video games .I have to admit I did kind of like it, which is unsurprising because I tend to find that films targeted at family audience's usually do have quite high production values. The plot was quite predictable but it was enjoyable and there where some funny one liners.I have to say that I only realised that Max was played by Joaquin Phoenix or rather Leaf Phoenix after checking it out here.Incidentally I don't think that Space Camp had a theatrical release in Cinemas in the UK and Ireland in 1986.It was sad that the Challenger shuttle disaster occured that year and that event may very well have affected the films theatrical marketing internationally.

Yeah I think without the real life disaster this would of done quite well. Its alot better than quite a number of these type of family 80s movies. I remember this from TV as a kid and loved it, and though it lost part of its effect on me as an adult its still pretty decent- not like The Goonies or Flight Of The Navigator but still Ill prob get the dvd cause its only £4 from Amazon.

I never saw it as a kid either. Like you I was renting Horror movie.
Now that I do NETFLIX I rent all those Old School '80s flicks I missed out on as a kid. (I vividly remember commercials for this movie, especailly since they had a tie in commercial with a popular soda brand). I put this on tonight and I had a bottle of vodka on hand figuring I'd need a few drinks to get through this. Surprisingly, I never even opened the bottle!

The only thing that grated my nerves was the little kid and his robot friend, but I guess they threw them in to appeal to the younger audience. I guess it was worth it though cuz now I know what Joaquin looked like as a child at least. Hahaha.

Good movie. I never wanna watch it again but it was worth a one shot rental. Its always fun to see the fashions and sundtracks from the '80s and I like most of the people in this cast (Lea, Kelly).

it's fun 80's family movie, not as good as Flight Of The Navigator, E.T. or The Goonies, but fun nonetheless

it's a shame I never saw it as a kid because I'm sure I would've loved it

back in 98 I did a titty comedy for Skinemax. Sex Camp, ya remember it?
