Great Movie!!!!
Screw all you bashers! Kate Capshaw is great in this film! So is Leaf/Joaquin. I'm so sick of people bashing kids actors! Some people seem to forget they were kids them selves once.

shareI agree, this is a good movie. I saw it when I was a kid and rewatching it on DVD it still pulls its familiar tricks, albeit slightly less convincingly. But it's a great story, pretty well executed, with good actors and a great score from the inimitable John Williams.
shareThis movie is terrific. It has an interesting concept (however improbable) and my favorite line in the whole things is "My God...we have liftoff." Whoo!
shareI became heavily influenced by the Challenger disaster. Being only 11 when it happened I suddenly saw everything space realted as scripture. Spacecamp was no different. I saw it seven times in the theater. Watching it now, it is painfully dated in a few areas and flawed in certain places as well. Still, it ranks as an enjoyable watch. I can still find myself somewhat choked up during the launch. Thinking back on it, I'm glad they decided to use Atlantis as the Shuttle in question. If they had opted to use Columbia, it would have made this movie more of a lament than entertainment.
shareThe only thing I liked about this flick is John Williams score. The last really melodic space score he composed before he resorted to filler music.
shareIt is a brilliant score. Don't worry, Williams is still writing melodic, memorable music. You just didn't go see Memoirs of a Geisha like the rest of the country.
shareyep. i have to agree. this was one of my favorite movies as a kid and i still find myself quoting it! to this day, when something unbelievalbe happens as i turn into trish, with a little, "whip me, beat me, take away my charge cards!..." i love it! this is a great feel good movie.
peace
I know what you mean! Sure, there are continuity problems and sure are a few goofs, but I like the plot and the dialogue and I feel that most of the actors did a great job.
shareI watched this movie during a school trip to the Euro Space Camp in 5th grade. I was 10 and thought it was awesome at the time. I thought the shuttle launch simulations we did ourselves were pretty boring though(they consisted in reading technobabble and pressing predefined buttons).
I only just realized Joaquin Phoenix was the little Star Wars geek.
I like the movie cause of Lea Thompson and Kelly Preston. I also love Kate Capshaw. I love Dire Straits. Kate was the lady. If Andy only acted like Willie Scott from the "Temple of Doom" under tough situations, the team'd go nuts! And only if Kathryn acted like Erica from "Red Dawn", she'd tackle anything. Same thing to Tate Donovan if he was like Hercules.
shareI saw this movie when I was a kid, and I loved it...I do realize that the movie is goofy, and for some odd reason whenever I watch it I still like it. It must remind me of my childhood!! I like to laugh at it....
shareHmm...I only ever saw Space Camp's trailer as it was on one of my old VHSs - that said I love what I see;
"We've got an overheat on Booster B."
"What does that mean?"
"We can't stop it!"
"Booster B is near ignition - it's gonna light!"
"Get that thing operational."
"Go for Launch, NOW!"
"We're not authorised!"
"They're gonna die."
"WHAT'S HAPPENING!"
"LIGHT IT!"
Like I said, I love it.
Hee! Yup, it's one of those ones that I find impossible to ridicule or actively find fault with when I watch it now, just because I loved it when I was a kid- so I still think it is a neat little flick, love Tish and her makeup, yell at Katherine to shut her smug self up from time to time, think Andie is quite the mean wench, laugh at Kevin's joking airplane pilot instructions, and feel awful for little old Max when he's banging on the window pleading to be let back inside the spaceship.
That said, I laugh my ass off now when Kevin calms Max down by telling him to "Use the force", and Jinx seems much more psychopathic than the cute 'bot I remember.
I loved this film so much when I was younger. I watched it repeatedly and knew it back-to-front. It's probably been fifteen years since I've seen it, and I have to say I don't think I could watch it again now. I thought they were all so sophistocated, especially Tish with her fab clothes and make-up. Just thinking about that 'use the force' scene makes me cringe!
Despit that, I'll still defend that the film is great.
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!
I love this movie to, they don't make kids movies like this anymore..
shareThis was one of my favorite movies, when I was a kid. Hadn't seen it in 20 years, and just watched it again...
It made some fond memories come back to life...The 80's were great!
Although they have come far in making family-movie-adventures, I can still see it for what it is.
Movie fun and "drama" for the family... Yep, I still like it! ;-)
I have loved this film since childhood! Growing up watching the shuttles taking off in Florida, I had dreams of going to space camp (never got to go, sadly). This movie did (and still does, despite my now being an adult and seeing the implausibility/inconsistencies) inspire me. "I wish I was in space."
