Second movie was way better

I just watched this one as I had seen the second one as a kid but never the first. I wa shocked how bad it was. Numerous times I could see the cheap special effects. Like in the beginning you can see the fishing line pulling on the fake dummy solider to make it roll over. The string for the coin Johnny 5 flips is clearly visable on the left and when Johnny 5 speeds out of the back of the Nova truck towards the end you can see his left tread break off and fall on the ground.

It was some real amateur work along with bad acting. No one really seemed to scared that this robot was loose and could just kill them.

I was also surprised how much cursing a PG movie in the 80's had.

The second one was much better with acting, special effects and seemed more like a family movie.

I agree. In large part because it felt more heartfelt, and because Ally Sheedy's horrible character was completely absent.

Behave!

Original was way better than the sequel - especially since Sheedy and Guttenberg were not in it.

I'd have to disagree. The original was the best.

It wasn't even New York, no.

Old movies from our youth will always seem better than old movies we watch for the first time as adults. That's just how it is.
