Disjointed
and too much humor for such a serious subject matter.
shareHave to strongly disagree there. The humour was limited to the banter and conflict between Woods and Belushi and I thought helped the proceedings from becoming too oppressive and hopeless.
shareI agree. Woods and Belushi weren't supposed to be really serious journalists (not Woodward and Bernstein), and both actors have good comedic skills. I think Woods' character figured he could out-fox everyone else by being glib, but eventually realizes he's over-powered and the situation indeed IS grim. It's a very sad movie, and that it starts off as more a lark I think gives it poignancy.
shareCompletely agree 100%!
shareBelushi was just an out of luck and out of work layabout disc jokey. Their timing is great. Among my favourite lines are:
Wood's Italian wife at the start of the film - on the verge of a nervous breakdown: "I CANNOT LIVE LIKE THIS!"
Woods: (cheery). "Good morning!".
Belushi: "I can't believe a straight man to a chimp is going to be the next President. Doesn't it bug you?"
Woods: "You know what's bugging me? You!".
Belushi: "Oh well I can accept that"
Woods: "Well I can't! Go out; meet some girls; get laid. Just get out of my face!".
