Great travesty woods not getting best actor

I am one who takes the Oscars with a pinch of salt. One of the finest acting performances I have ever seen was by James Woods in Salvador, ok he was nominated, but was overlooked by the academy for Paul Newmans sympathy Oscar for the Color of Money, as Newman was an ageing actor had never before got an oscar when he probably should have years earlier for some brilliant performances, so what I am saying is its who u are with the academy if woods had Tom Cruises face he would probably have 3 or 4 Oscars.

Woods is an actor with a fantastic range.
Cruise isn't.

james woods is indeed a master deserves way more credit hollywood bs oscar bs

I just watched this again last night. Woods was really cheated on that oscar - the way he switches from cool, scared, passionate, tender - it's a real tour de force.

Jack...I swear.

I watched Salvador for the first time last night and was very surprised at James Wood's acting. I had only really seen him in Videodrome before and after seeing this film I have a whole new respect for him. A very impressive performance.

You should check out Once Upon A Time In America, and even stuff like Ghosts of Mississippi, Woods has turned in a few great performances over the years.

"We're making a film here, not a movie."

I think James Woods is one of the most underrated of American actors.
He has great screen presence and is wholly believable in his roles.
Some of his performances have been truly remarkable, most notably Salvador where he thoroughly deserved an Academy award.
It is just a shame that there do not seem to be many important roles for actors of Woods' calibre.
Hollywood seem to be more interested in churning out movies that will make a fast buck but that more often than not lack the ingredients which make truly great and memorable films.

But he's brilliant in Videodrome.

reply

Totally agree. Brilliant acting in an excellent film. Such a shame.
