Better Than Platoon?

Is this the forgotten Oliver Stone film? I finally just saw it and was shocked by how amazing it is. From the opneing credits to the closing shot its just such a well made film. I didn't even mind James Belushi's presence in the film, he was a great character.
I guess since this came out the same year as PLATOON one of the two had to get lost in the shuffle.
PLATOON'S a great movie no question but this movie just had something a bit extra- for me at least.

No. They were even in my opinion. That's why I can't pick which of Stone's films would have won Screenplay that year. Maybe that's what oscar voters were thinking too. It's a pity that Woody Allen won for the umpteenth time though. He could write a story about grass growing and get an Oscar nomination.

But as for Stone... I think that Salvador and Platoon are dead even. Both have advantages over the other, with relatively few disadvantages.

Platoon's better, I also like U Turn, that's very underrated

[shake head] to each his own, but U-Turn is DISMAL.

Frankly I think U Turn is a black stain on Stone's career. He had a brilliant cast, but no story.

I wonder if this would have received more recognition if it had been released after Platoon, but then he wouldn't have made "Wall Street" and "Talk Radio".

No chance.

Alexander Revisited was a very good film, better than the other sword-and-sandal films these days (300, Troy) and a stone's throw more historically accurate than Braveheart, Gladiator, or Kingdom of Heaven.

U Turn was at best, a series of great performances from some of the actors. At worst, it was as close to a mess as Stone has gotten.

I liked the film "W". I thought it was an excellent film, as good as Stone could have made in the time and budget he was given. The whole cast did a fine job, and it's too bad that it didn't make that much money. Hopefully DVD sales will save Stone again.
