What a messed up country!!!

No. America would never enter a poor country that's already pretty screwed up and then make things even worse. That's impossible!

It was probably already messed up but then again so was Iraq and look when America did there.

We weren't really directly involved in the whole ordeal until we decided to help out the dictatorship, which I think it pretty hypocritical. We have no right to start a war to overthrow a dictatorship and say it's wrong when in the past we've helped equally bad dictatorships squash rebellions for freedom.

We shouldn't really be meddled with the affairs of other countries unless we have to, example: they threaten us or there are atrocities being committed that the whole world agrees that something should be done to stop them...and even then we should watch ourselves carefully.

That was not a "rebellion for freedom," it was a Communist attempted takeover that would've made El Salvador far worse had it succeeded.

The country was messed up before USA support the right wind murderers, the difference is that before, the people were alive, when USA brought "democracy" people got killed....

Eh, the country was in a better position during the 60's and parts of the 70's then as itputsthelotionontheskin describes it got worse.

Ok considering that none of you guys have ever been there and probably never been in actual Central America, it isnt in the civil war anymore, very industrialized but has a crime problem now. There you go, quit bitching at each other

Yeah. It's still messed up. It was messed up before EEUU started aiding the wrong people and selling weapons under the table to the enemy (which were actually the people defending the poor)!

EEUU aided the people that had Romero and seven Jesuits murdered. Not to mention the hundred of people that were murdered just for listening to a certain radio station on the street.

And EEUU also suggested the government to sign peace agreements when the CIA found out that the guerrila had stolen russian ground-to-air missles from Nicaragua. Americans weren't about to lose more expensive aircrafts in a war they didn't really care about.

Salvadoran refugees in the EEUU were bullied by the racist crisis EEUU had at those times. The mafia on both sides were hitting them hard. However, the highest violent point of the black and white mafia was to stabb someone. To beat a person with a baseball bat. And these salvadoran refugees came from a country were they would see corps with 20 bullets in the chest and their arms, legs and head cut off. So the most dangerous gang in the world was born to show real violence to their rivals.

The civil war ended and these gang members came back home to rule the streets and spread fear to the innocent hard workers. El Salvador is like this today. But not only do we have a crime problem. We've been dealing with extremely bad govermentship for the last 20 years. There's an economic crisis affecting even more the really poor thanks to a poorly implemented TLC. The national currency was changed to US dollars to freeze the fall of its value. And this is how it is today.

This is El Salvador's general history in five paragraphs trying to be as imparcial as possible. Hope this is useful for those who asked.

What a biased argument.

The US selling weapons under the table to the enemy, who is the enemy in your opinion exactly because even in that line you contradict yourself when its comes to implementing facts? As I recall Cuba and many other countries did the same for the guerillas( who were and still are communists by the way).

Only commies like this film, it blindly leads people to believe that only the government killed people, its a war for Christ's sakes. Why didnt you mention the hundreds of murders and kidnaps the guerillas used to get their money, and that the ones who actually used children in their army were the guerillas and not the government.

You describe your 5 paragraphs as being El Salvador´s general history, I think that even the Estudios Sociales book gives us more history than that. The whole turmoil began in the 30s during the pheasant uprising.

And...nowadays government in El Salvador, obvioulsy not the best there is, is not the same one that you see in the movie. The same guerillas you see in the film have been the ones who have stopped El Salvador from progressing by opposing all of the current government´s proposals in the legislative assembly or the "house". They´re just Chavez´ puppets, and will obviously follow the fate of all of Chavez´ allied countries after they win the elections (wich they have chances of doing so in the coming months).

Jesus, I cant believe people are still fooled by communists these days.

Thank you Magenzus for adding some sanity to this discussion. Seeing this g'd awful communist propaganda film at a theater at Northern Illinois University in the 1980s actually inspired me like nothing else to get into conservative politics. When I saw the students cheering for the Communist rebels on horseback I knew there was a serious problem with this country. It's no wonder that decades later they could elect a Marxist president with close ties to a Communist Terrorist and an anti-American Communist "preacher." Stone was not someone out to "find the truth," he was a very pro-Communist filmmaker who bends the truth to his ideology. In his documentaries on Castro he completely ignored Castro's crimes against humanity and simply glorified him.
