Ruined Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings"

Every time I hear this beautiful piece of music, I can't help thinking of this damned movie. Movie makers should provide their own music instead of using classical pieces that have nothing to do with the film's content.

Try watching David Lynch's 'The Elephant Man' (1980) if you want to think of another movie when you hear Barber's adagio for strings.

reply

Agreed.
See: Rossini and that crap ranger.
Only thing worse is to use the soundtrack from another movie.

reply

Goodness... Does that mean that you do not appreciate Quentin T?

reply

I like Tarantino and his use of hidden gem tracks.
I hate when he steals ost from other movies (as in Django).

reply

I heard it first in Homeworld

reply

I think it's brilliant. It goes with the serious, mournful situation of war.

reply

i agree.

this film is maudlin. what make it maudlin is this music!

reply

It certainly did totally overuse this piece of music and ruined it.

There's even a techno track which uses the melody and I can't stand hearing it.

reply

I think Adagio for Strings worked really well in Platoon, especially the scene where Elias died.
