Best Movie Ever?

This is my all time favorite movie so of course I'm a little biased. Recently I pondered if Apocalypse Now was the greatest movie ever. I received a few responses that said it was slow and boring and I admit at times this does seem true.

Taking a closer look at Platoon, I think every single scene from start to finish is outstanding. Every scene is perfectly placed like pieces in a magnificently colored puzzle. Acting top notch, outstanding directing, moving score, perfect pacing, super highs and lows, funny moments, endlessly quotable. Multiple Academy Award wins including best director and best movie.

So I ask, with so many other movies, such as Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Godfather, always considered at or very near the top can Platoon even compete as best ever?

It certainly is one of the greatest films of the 80's. With the exception of Amadeus (1984) -- I would say it's the standout best picture winner of that decade.
