Do You Think O'Neill Survived the War?
He was a coward, a jerk, a sycophant to a bully, and the kind of prick who contributes to making the world a worse place, and yet I found him strangely sympathetic.

shareI think O'Neill was destined to survive the war. All his buddies left the Nam in body bags but he leaves without a scratch.. except when he goes back to the world his dear Betsy is long gone and his mental scars are so deep he dives deep into drug and alcohol addiction. Eventually, while sitting in a stupor at his local hangout he hears a loud noise and has another flashback and gets a lengthy prison sentence for putting an innocent bystander in his patented O'Neill death grip. Rough times for ole' Red.
shareProbably, he seemed to be the kind of guy who would do whatever it took to get himself out of the war(kissing ass, hiding under a dead body, begging, etc). That promotion he got at the end was the worst thing that could have happened to him
