Tom Berenger

How the hell did he not win an Oscar for this. Just watched it again tonight. Amazing performance. Totally robbed

I agree. He was perfect in the role and did a fabulous job. So did Dafoe. But the Academy seems to have a snobbish attitude toward awarding actors in war films. Not even Brando or Sheen won an Oscar for Apocalypse Now. The only awards they ever seem to give out are ones for technical stuff like: Best Sound Editing or Best Cinematography.

Hopefully, someday, they will start giving actors in war films more rspect.

Yeah, he did a great job. I always take note when I see an actor as a completely different person in each role. As Barnes, he was an intimidating sociopathic villain. But then I saw him in Gettysburg as the gentlemanly and stoic General Longstreet.

Hard to believe he was in the cast of The Big Chill. And then he played a baddie in some movie with Debra Winger. I guess since he's not an extremely strong leading man, he can slip in and out of roles, and I can really appreciate that.

I agree Tom Berenger should have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The good news is both he and Williem Dafoe were at least nominated. I can't believe Michael Caine and Dianne Wiest won supporting actor awards for Hannah and Her Sisters, just shows how terrible Academy voters can be.
