A good film for what it is; 80’s horror schlock

It was a bit funny, a bit violent and the special effects are great. I feel like they set out to make a dumb horror movie and they took the task seriously. In parallel, Atkins is a solid pick to pull off the goofy/very serious character. When a movie like this succeeds to hit the target it was aiming at I can only raise my hat to it, sit back and enjoy the show. Just put a little bit more butter on my popcorn and I’m good! I mean, again, lots of memorable details like the spaceship, the bus crash, the dog, the teens, the cop, the axe man, the leeches and the janitor. My rating: 7/10

Now this was one that I could get behind. It knows what it is, but there is just a little bit extra effort with the acting and the writing. The scene where the main lead learns his friend is dead is a sad but moving moment. (sorry spoilers) The love interest has a personality and she has some good lines. And yes, Tom Atkins is terrific here.
