Jason Lively (main actor) was lame...

I'd say he was the weakest part of the cast. He's sleepwalking through the movie.

So you're saying he wasn't very "lively"?:P (I had to. How often do you get an opportunity like that?)

But seriously, I saw nothing wrong with his performance in the film. He seemed to have fun with it -- especially when he had scenes with Jill.

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me.

That, sir, is a good pun. :)
It's just that he left no impression on me unlike everyone else (and I do mean everyone else). Maybe it's the way his role was written (he can't seem to make up his mind about anything). Even when he gets to be the hero at the end, he still looks to me like somebody trying to act as "the man" instead of being "the man".

Revisited this for the first time in 20+ years. Was underwhelmed, as well. Felt has was leaps above this performance in European Vacation, where he had so much more energy.

I think that was the point, this hopeless nerd is the only one left at the end to deal with the problem.

He's horrid. He helped ruin Euro Vaca. Good thing that ugly frog man with a voice almost as annoying as his looks has been long gone from ruining movies.

he was a little too wimpy for me in this... and whiney..

I disagree...he was a nerd zombie killing machine. There would be no Jesse Eisenberg in Zombieland if Jason didn't pave the way first!

Funny you should mention him... :)

^^This. I thought he was cool, loved his last line too. 

He hasn't exactly set the world on fire with his later work, though he did a good job in this one.🐭

He was far better than the wooden Jill Whitlow.

I thought he was okay. J.C. was the one with all the personality in that friendship whereas Chris was more shy and reserved. I noticed in real life that shy people usually have loud, sarcastic friends to sort of balance each other out so I think it's authentic. I believe it's just how the character was written and his performance suited the character.

They should had made Paymer the lead.

It's that man again!!

He did pretty well as the misfortunate lead in "Night Visions" episode Neighborhood Watch.
