The best movie musical of the late 20th century!

By FAR! The catchiest songs, the best leading performance from Moranis, the most scene-stealing supporting actors, a story that's genuinely gripping, the most laughs, the AWESOME plant effects, and of course the wonderful "Greek Chorus" girls that totally fit in with dark theme under the comedy. It is a great film and totally original, that manages to perfectly carry off exaggerated comedy and make-ya-wanna-dance music, while a man struggles for his soul.

I don't think there were any better musical films made between 1970 and 1999, or 1960 and 1999. Maybe there were a few better ones in the fifties, before the Studio System went bust, but for the post-studio era this is it.

It's one of my favourites too Otter. You'd probably have Sound of Music and Grease fans questioning the 'best musical' title, but I agree it has great songs, is a true original and is far less well-worn than those monster musicals you see on TV every five minutes.

"SUDDENLY SEYMOUR.... IS STANDING BESIDE YOU..."

That's just a great song to belt out with all your diaphragmatic power, when nobody else can hear you.

True.

Yeah, I think I agree. Only Alan Parker directed Evita comes close, IMHO.

It's good, but there are better musicals from that era. I would rank these musicals from 1960-1999 above Little Shop of Horrors:

Annie
Bugsy Malone
Doctor Dolittle
Grease
Hello, Dolly!
Mary Poppins
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Sound of Music
West Side Story
