They could've kept the original spoiler

I don't know much about the length of a film versus cost…But I feel they could've at least edited the movie so that the original ending was a nightmare sequence somewhere, or a daydream that Seymour envisions. It would probably still have to be cut short, but just to salvage that awesomely done scene. In the interviews Oz mentions how he hired someone to create plants after months of hard work…Well, it's been done…I just thought that was a shame. At least we do get to see it now.

I was just thinking they could have found a way to splice the two endings together, you may be onto something with the dream sequence idea. I love the theatrical/happy ending but I always thought it was a bit short. The first/DC ending is a big bummer and too long in my opinion but it does have some fantastic effects. A combination ending could be cool; just take out the parts with Seymour and Audrey being killed and have Seymour somehow have a nightmare or maybe have Audrey 2 fantasizing about the future, then come back and finish with the happy ending.
