Since I was a kid this film was a treasure. It's now a classic. I'm 33 years old and i still love it. I'm not really into musical films now but this and grease were my childhood. It should at least get 8.6/10. I expected that... :(

Well, it's not that great of a movie. Some of the plotting and characterization is weak, and it's pretty bleak and depressing.

Exactly, musicals tend not to get much praise these days, but they're still better than the trash Hollywood puts out now.

Still great. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman should have won Oscar for this (and The Little Mermaid) already, not for the overrated Beauty and the beast. But as usual, the awards come late and for the wrong movies.
shareI hate musicals but just watched this for the first time since I was a kid and loved it. It’s dark, satirical, and hilarious. Stacked with a great cast. They probably wouldn’t let kids watch this these days which is sad. When I was little we watched PG13 movies. Now there ain’t any PG13 movies. No wonder the kids are all narcissistic head cases these days. They watched Barney and Sesame Street too long.
