LOUISE FLETCHER

Shame on her. She is an Oscar winner! When she turned around with that fake frog in her mouth, I wanted to slap her!

Perhaps she wasn't pulling in the best of roles at that time. She seems very versatile. I've seen her in big name movies, cheesy movies like Invaders From Mars, Strange Invaders, High School High. Even on a episode of In the Heat of the Night. So I guess no part to big or small for her.

I did like her creepy ass in this movie though.

That little statue didn't pay her bills, or guarantee that she would always get good roles. This was 11 years after One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and even then she was already in her 40's (in only her second role after coming back from an 11 year hiatus to raise her children), and in her 50's by the time of this movie. While it's a little better now, there's never been an abundance of great roles for older women.

There have been Oscar winners who have turned around and made sh!ttier movies than Louise Fletcher, actors/actresses who were still in high demand too. Look at Halle Berry, she won an Oscar then made Catwoman (and many more stinkers), which is considered one of the worst films of all time. Cuba Gooding, Jr. made such crap as Snow Dogs and Rat Race.

There are many more examples, but the bottom line is that not every movie an Oscar winner makes is going to be Oscar caliber. Louise deserves a little slack because I don't think people were knocking down her door to cast an over-the-hill mother of two. She was just a working actress who had the perfect role land in her lap, but it didn't mean that she could afford to be picky. I never really understood why she got the Razzie nomination out of this movie, when Karen Black was WAY worse. Louise's role was sillier (by design) but Karen Black was way worse in a role that didn't require her to act stupid.

Yeah that all makes sense, but still...do some theater then. There's thousands of gerat roles for women. It's just a little degrading. Acting is an art and when it is abused it's painful to watch.
Cuba lucked out with his Oscar-he was good, but not great-it was a flashy, one-note part. I dont think anyone looks at him as an Oscar calibre actor after Boat Trip...

She ended up in some creature's mouth too. I did enjoy the frog scene though even at that age I'd imagine what skill she had.

Fletcher was awesome to me! She was so so creepy & just super fun. Stop picking on her!

To be honest I actually liked her. She made me want to be a potato headed alien monster. I guess it was some perverse infatuation with the evil teacher lady.

Well, if it was 1975 Louise Fletcher I might understand. But she kind of got old fast....
