Dennis Hopper nominated for the wrong film

He was Oscar nominated for this, and it’s a fine performance in a fine film, but another performance of his that year is the one he should have been nominated for.

If you hadn’t guessed it already then I’m of course talking about Blue Velvet.

I couldn’t disagree more, he’s a sadistic, mentally ill gangster sniffing god knows what through a mask, he was hardly going to be restrained in the role.

His performance was perfect for the character.

One of the most cowardly moves the Academy ever pulled. It’s clear that the nomination for his cutesy drunk was really honouring his indelible and terrifying Frank Booth, but sadly the directors’ branch was the only chapter bold enough to nominate that film. He’s fine in Hoosiers but there’s nothing remotely award-worthy about his work in the film.

Agreed. And Dead Stockwell should have been nominated for best supporting actor for playing Ben because he's "so fucking suave!"
