One of my favorite films EXCEPT for....

I grew up in Southern Indiana and I love this movie because they really captured the flavor of what living in the state was like when I was a child (corn fields, old gyms, architecture, people, etc...). However, the one part that bothered me was the character played by Chelcie Ross (big mouth guy). I felt like he overacted...either that or I was irritated because he was too much like many I'd known who were shall we say, larger than life.
Funny story though....after seeing that movie, I later learned that there was another Indiana sports film was about to come out and so it was with great excitement that I went to see, "Rudy" when it opened. It was great until the same guy played Dan Devine in that movie too! Same big mouth. Arrrgggghhhh

Funny thing was Dan Devine was a quiet guy -- much quieter than his predecessor Ara Parseghian.

Devine almost sued the producers of "Rudy" because in real life, he never tried to throw Rudy Ruettiger off the team, he constantly encouraged him, etc etc etc.

As far as Chelcie Ross in 'Hoosiers,' he was supposed to symbolize the big mouth guy who always thinks he knows how to coach the team better than the guy actually doing it.
