Norman would have had to make one HUGE coaching adjustment

Until the 1948-49 season -- believe it or not -- it was illegal for coaches in NCAA basketball to speak to their players during time outs.

So if the last time Norm had coached was 1939-40, he would have been used to not being able to speak to players during time outs.

Although that certainly would have made the game scenes a lot duller.

High school rules were usually MORE restrictive than college in the regard of coaches talking to players during time-outs.

Up until the 1960s there was great weight put on the concept that players should know what to do themselves without having to be constantly told what to do by coaches.

For instance, football had rules until the 1940s that players coming into the game could not speak to teammates until at least one play had been run. The idea of coaches calling plays on the sidelines and sending them in was considered a very objectionable thing.
